Be it political, social or religious, Tv and Film actor Hamza Ali Abbasi makes sure that he writes his opinion almost about all the issues. This is actually a good practice and should be encouraged. But recently, when Abbasi wrote his opinion about item numbers in Pakistani films – for the second time – the actor received much criticism because of his role in Pakistan’s biggest blockbuster movie Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA).

Mann Mayal actor took to social networking site Facebook and wrote, “Its heart breaking and disappointing to see some brilliant Pakistani film makers still using ITEM NUMBERS to sell their films.”

He also criticised censor board and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for allowing such content. “How can the censor board allow such filth to run in cinemas and how can PEMRA allow this to be run on channels?,” questioned Abbasi.

The actor was of the opinion that item songs objectify women. “Item songs degrade women and objectify them….which goes against the essence of Women’s Empowerment and Women’s Rights, our religion and our norms,” he posted.

It was not the first time that the actor wrote against item numbers in Pakistani films. In fact, he boycotted JPNA promotions just because he wanted filmmakers to cut item numbers from the film, which they did not agree upon.

This sparked debate on micro blogging site Twitter, where actor received much criticism for his role in JPNA.

Abbasi did not Tweet anything in his defence but edited status on his Facebook page and added, “all those ignorant friends commenting about JPNA, please go to Google, type “Hamza Ali Abbasi JPNA” and you,ll get your answer.”
