The rising tensions with India may have a small positive outcome, as it has given content producers some inspiration to highlight what it really is like. Having said that, Umera Ahmed has derived inspiration from how it all affects the residents of the two countries, and the people that are left behind post-war, and has come up with a script for a new project.

Based on true events and titled Dhoop Ki Deewar, the project will come forth in the form of a web-series and has been taken over by Parwaaz Hai Junoon fame Haseeb Hassan. The director-producer has some major hits to his name, including Mann Mayal and the much-hyped upcoming project, Alif.

And interestingly, Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly have been roped in for the main roles. And in a conversation with InStep, the playwright revealed more details about the series. “Dhoop Ki Deewar is not a love story: it is a love-hate story based on the love-hate relationship between people of India and Pakistan. That’s the only way WE can write and read a love story between these two people,” he said.

“That’s what almost 70 years of unending hatred does to people and their sensibilities. And the most difficult thing for a writer in the subcontinent is to write an Indo-Pak love story,” he added.

According to Hassan, their initial idea was to include actors from across the border as well, but with the ongoing straining situation, they decided against it. Nevertheless, the series will have a star-studded cast of Samiya Mumtaz, Samina Ahmed, Savera Nadeem, Manzar Sehbai, Adnan Jaffer, Zara Tareen, Paras Masroor, Hammad Siddiqui, Ainy Zaidi, Salma Hasan, Lubna Aslam and Raza Talish.

The web-series is scheduled to release online on various international platforms soon and we have our fingers crossed for Netflix.
