Former Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has voiced his displeasure over the recent selection of the national Test squad for the upcoming series against England. In a video shared on social media, Shehzad harshly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selector Mohammad Yousuf for excluding high-performing domestic players, particularly Kamran Ghulam, despite his impressive first-class record.
Shehzad expressed frustration over what he perceives as favoritism in the squad selection, particularly pointing out the continuous inclusion of Abdullah Shafique despite inconsistent performances. “How has he [Shafique] been fast-tracked?” Shehzad questioned, accusing the selectors of promoting players based on favoritism rather than merit.
He also slammed the PCB for focusing on “consistency and continuity” in selection policies while ignoring domestic performers like Ghulam, who has accumulated 4377 runs in 98 innings with an average of 49.17. Shehzad lamented, “Favoritism and friendships have destroyed Pakistan cricket,” criticizing the selection process and calling for more accountability.
The PCB has yet to respond to Shehzad’s criticism, but the debate over fair selection continues to stir controversy in the cricket community.
