Renowned singer Atif Aslam has opened up about the initial criticism he received for his breakout song ‘Aadat’. In a resurfaced interview, Atif revealed that members of the popular band Noori had dismissed the track early on in his career.
The video, shared by the fan-run Instagram account *Anam S (@byyouraadee)*, shows Atif recalling how he played ‘Aadat’ for Noori during a casual meet-up. At the time, Noori was a big name in Pakistan’s music industry.
“They were all sitting in a room,” Atif said. “I played the song. When it ended, most of them said it was nonsense. Some even called it cheap and unnecessary.”
Only one person in the room liked it, though Atif didn’t reveal who it was.
Despite the rejection, Atif went ahead with promoting ‘Aadat’ independently. Released in December 2003 with Goher Mumtaz as part of the underground duo Jal, ‘Aadat’ quickly went viral on radio and music channels across Pakistan.
Atif recorded the track at the age of 17 using his own savings. The song soon became a youth anthem and launched his career as a leading pop-rock artist in South Asia.
In the same interview, Atif shared that just a couple of years later, Noori was opening for him at one of his concerts.
Fans have shown strong support in response to the viral clip, praising Atif’s determination and resilience.
So far, Noori has not responded to Atif Aslam’s comments.
