Known for her powerful roles in dramas like Humsafar, Nijat, Pyar Ke Sadqay, and Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi, Atiqa is currently appearing on the review show Kya Drama Hai, which airs on 24 News HD.

While reviewing the drama Parwarish, Atiqa went off-script to deliver a strong critique on the traditional practice of arranged marriages, particularly focusing on the trauma they can cause.

“Forced Relationships Are Painful” – Atiqa Odho

Speaking candidly, Atiqa said,

“Forceful marriage is painful for anyone. Any kind of forced relationship is traumatic for both men and women.”

She highlighted how conservative societies like Pakistan often prevent boys and girls from interacting. Then, suddenly, they’re expected to be intimate on their wedding night with someone they barely know.

The Unspoken Trauma of the Wedding Night

Atiqa added that she’s often asked people about their wedding night experiences.

“I am fascinated by how a girl, who’s been in purdah all her life, is suddenly expected to have physical intimacy with a stranger.”

She believes this sudden transition can be deeply uncomfortable and psychologically damaging, especially when there is no emotional connection or communication beforehand.

Her comments have opened up an important conversation on how arranged marriages are conducted in Pakistan and the emotional toll they take. While the topic remains controversial, many are applauding Atiqa for shedding light on a reality that’s often ignored.
