Acclaimed actress Mehwish Hayat has surprised fans with her bold choice of playing a Dayan in her latest drama. The show has been receiving impressive viewership and praise.
In a candid interview on Gup Shup with FUCSHIA, hosted by Rabia Mughni, Mehwish shared why she took on such a risky and unique role. She called it an “experiment” and said she wanted to break out of the predictable roles.
“This drama had both commercial appeal and realism,” she said. “It was edgy, experimental, and stories like this are rarely shown on TV.”
Mehwish revealed how the opportunity came up during a flight from Dubai to Karachi. She met producer Abdullah Kadwani and told him she would consider TV again only if the script felt cinematic. Shortly after, he shared a script that impressed her.
She added, “Once I heard the story from Siraj and the team, I knew I had to do it. It was different.”
One of the biggest challenges, she said, was portraying two completely different personalities in one drama. She wanted to bring depth to each character.
The story centers on a strong female protagonist who decides to take control and say, “Enough is enough.”
Mehwish also mentioned her discomfort with shooting in graveyards. Out of respect, she asked the team to recreate the set — but even then, the shoot wasn’t easy.
“The grave we used was real. There were actual insects. It was scary,” she said.
Despite the risks, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans are loving the drama, and Mehwish is proud to have taken this bold step.
