Mehwish Hayat, known globally for her role in Ms. Marvel, and Indian rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh are now under scrutiny from the UK government. This comes after their recent music video, Jatt Mehkma, featured scenes of children holding imitation firearms.
The video, which has over 40 million views on YouTube, caught the attention of MP Manuela Perteghella. Representing Stratford-upon-Avon in the West Midlands, she raised concerns directly to the UK Home Office.
The four-minute video, shot in Birmingham and Eastnor Castle, shows young boys firing guns in support of Hayat’s character. These visuals have sparked widespread alarm for potentially glamorizing gun violence and involving minors in violent content.
According to reports, the UK Home Office is actively considering issuing exclusion orders. This would prevent both Hayat and Singh from entering the UK under immigration laws that protect the “public good.”
Such decisions are often taken discreetly. Individuals are informed in writing, and no public announcement is made.
The video has also triggered legal concerns, including:
- Use of imitation firearms
- Exposure of minors to violent content
- Possible violation of filming regulations
Local authorities like the West Midlands Police have been notified, although no public comment has yet been issued.
While Singh is listed as the video’s creator, neither artist has responded to the controversy. Hayat’s team declined to comment, and Singh, who has family in the UK, has remained silent.
Director Mihir Gulati also has not issued a statement.
