Pakistan’s skipper in the white-ball format, Babar Azam, countered criticism on his English speaking abilities. He thinks that his main job is to play cricket and not to speak English.

“I am not ‘Gora’, who knows English completely. My main job is to play cricket and I try to focus on my game. Meanwhile, I am trying to learn English but I think it will take some time,” he told reporters during a teleconference.

Being a captain, Azam understands the importance of a positive mindset. “I know it is important to be confident when you are captaining a team. ODI captaincy is an additional responsibility and I am looking forward to giving my hundred percent,” he said.

“I have experienced players alongside who guide me every time. I keep on interacting with Misbah-ul-Haq to learn as much from him as I can,” he added.

Upon being asked, Azam said that ICC T20 World Cup should be played as per the schedule. “Its a big tournament and should be played. There is no issue even if it is played behind closed doors. For me, it is exciting as this will be my first-ever T20 World Cup as a player and captain too,” he concluded.
