Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has denied any interest in becoming the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Speaking in Gilgit-Baltistan, Afridi said he could have become PCB chairman if he wanted, but he never pursued it.
He stated:
“If I had influence, I’d be the PCB chairman today.”
Afridi said he doesn’t want any position or contract for personal gain.
He added:
“I don’t need a contract from the PCB. If I ever join, it’ll be to serve Pakistan and its players.”
He emphasised his passion for grassroots development. Afridi highlighted the need to train young players in Under-16, Under-17, and Under-19 categories.
He said:
“We need capable people to guide these players early.”
The 48-year-old also called for better cricket facilities in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Afridi urged:
“To attract talent, we must create opportunities and build proper grounds.”
Afridi briefly served as interim chief selector in December 2022. This came during a restructuring phase under Najam Sethi, following the removal of former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.
