Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has officially stepped down from his role as a mentor with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Malik confirmed the news through a statement on his social media platforms.

He revealed that he submitted his formal resignation two weeks ago.

According to Malik, managing multiple professional and personal responsibilities made it difficult to continue.

“This was not an easy choice,” said Malik. “But I realized I couldn’t give my best to Pakistan cricket while balancing other duties.”

Malik also said he would fulfill all contractual obligations to ensure a smooth transition.

He thanked PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Wahab Riaz, the executive team, and his coaching staff.

Special appreciation was given to the players he mentored, calling the experience “immensely fulfilling.”

“Cricket runs in my blood,” Malik added. “I remain committed to supporting Pakistan cricket in any way I can.”

Earlier in the day, reports surfaced that the PCB had decided to part ways with all five mentors appointed last year.

The move is said to be part of a broader strategic shift in domestic cricket.

Mentors affected include Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

They were appointed in August 2024 on three-year contracts.

Sources say the changes are being led by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi as the board prepares for upcoming domestic and international seasons.
