Former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf has raised concerns over Shoaib Malik’s participation in PSL 2025. He has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take strict action and clarify player eligibility.
Malik is currently part of the Quetta Gladiators squad. However, Yousuf believes the veteran all-rounder should not be playing at this stage of his career.
In 2024, Malik served as a mentor for the Stallions in the One-Day Cup. Yousuf cited this role to question his continued involvement as a player.
Yousuf said:
“The PCB needs to draw a line regarding Shoaib Malik playing in the PSL.”
Moreover, he added:
”If you ask me to play, even I’ll play. The board must decide who can and can’t play. Everyone wants to play, but there must be rules.”
Former captain Shahid Afridi shared a more balanced view. While not opposing Malik’s participation, Afridi suggested the senior should step aside occasionally.
Here’s what Afridi said:
”He can play as long as he wants. But he should skip a few games so that youngsters get chances. They’ve performed well to be here and deserve opportunities.”
Malik’s recent form hasn’t helped his case. He scored just 14 runs in two matches and has not taken a wicket so far.
Quetta Gladiators have one win from two games. Their next match is scheduled against Karachi Kings on April 18.
