The first two-day consultative conference to formulate first ever Film, Production and Broadcast Policy ended in Karachi on May 6th, 2017. Talking to the press at the concluding session, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcast Ms. Maryam Aurangzeb told “This has happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that film industry will be used a medium to give counter narrative against extremism and intolerance.” The minister also said that Jawani Phir Nahi Ani is her favorite movie while Humayun Saeed is her favorite actor.

Along with the minister, the Governor Sindh Mr. Muhammad Zubair, film producers, distributors and cinema owners also attended different sessions during the conference. While there was a very little representation from artists community. Addressing the lack of presence, the minister told that her government had not yet won the full confidence of them but it is trying address all their issues and win their hearts.

“We are concluding the conference where stakeholders informed about their issues and challenges and more importantly, it ended the deficit of confidence among stakeholders,” told the minister. “This was the first conference held in Karachi and we will be holding the same in Lahore in next phase,” she added. The minister confirmed that the Film Policy will be made after taking consultation from all stakeholders
