Sajal Aly’s latest international project, a film titled What’s Love Got To Do With It?, just released its official trailer, and not going to lie, it’s better than what you might be expecting. While we wish we could’ve seen more of Sajal in the two-and-a-half-minute clip, the actress still shines in her brief scenes.

Starring Lily James in the lead role, the film shows how she gets emotionally involved with her neighbor and close friend, played by Shahzad Latif, as he goes on to enter an arranged marriage with a Pakistani girl, played by Sajal. While most of the trailer focuses on Lily’s character and her journey and thought process, we also see bits and pieces of the diaspora family, their roots in Pakistan, and Sajal embodying a beautiful Pakistani bride.

Furthermore, the grand scale of Pakistani weddings can be measured by how Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is seen performing in one scene. And the writers have also made sure they highlight how toxic and ridiculous our rishta culture can be. Between Lily and Sajal’s poles apart character’s, it is up for the viewers to now wonder who the leading man, played by Shahzad Latif, will end up with.

This cross-culture rom-com is produced and written by Jemima Khan, and is shot in London and Lahore. It is all set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 10. Watch the trailer below.
