Sharmeen launches platform to support Pakistani women filmmakers

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has launched a platform named Patakha Pictures to provide financial support to women filmmakers in Pakistan.

In an Instagram post, SOC Films of Sharmeen shared that Patakha Pictures will be a new venture to support women filmmakers in Pakistan.

“We are excited to announce the launch of a funding & mentorship grant, PATAKHA PICTURES, to empower, promote & support the next generation of women filmmakers and storytellers in Pakistan, creating powerful, thought-provoking works of fiction and non-fiction,” they wrote.

“The funding cycle will open in October 2021, while final decisions will be announced in January 2022, further details of which will be available in September 2021,” the post added.

Sharmeen is a Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker known for highlighting inequality with women in her work. She is the recipient of two Academy Awards and six Emmy Awards.
