Hamza Ali Abbasi is one of those celebrities who have been speaking against item numbers in movies and that is why, when Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar recently apologized for the item songs in his films, the Mann Mayal actor did not miss a chance to share his opinion on that.

In a recent interview, Johar apologized for the item songs his films and told item numbers needed to go. “The moment you put a woman in the centre and a thousand men looking at her lustingly, it’s setting the wrong example. As a filmmaker, I have made those mistakes and I will never do it again,” he assured.

Johar further added, “When you show a man chasing a woman, it seems like it all so passionate in love but it could amount to stalking. So we as filmmakers need to be very responsible. Sometimes you don’t realise the things you write or project but you don’t know that they will actually impact society.”

The statement was wholeheartedly taken by Parwaz Hai Junoon lead actor Hamza Ali Abbasi, who also addressed filmmakers in Pakistan to look at it. “When i spoke against ITEM NUMBERS our desi MODERNATIES lashed at me calling me a wannabe Mullah…,” he wrote on his Twitter. “Now i hope atleast this guys views will help explaining why its not ok to use a woman’s sexual appeal to sell films. Hope we can focus on art & reject shameful trends like item nos,” he added.

Earlier, Abbasi strongly criticized item numbers in Pakistani films including his own debut Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and recently, Nabeel Qureshi’s Na Maloom Afraad 2. “Its heart breaking and disappointing to see some brilliant Pakistani film makers still using ITEM NUMBERS to sell their films,” he wrote earlier on his Facebook page.
