Pakistan U19 cricket team have failed to qualify for the final of ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 after arch rival India U19 defeated them by 203 runs. It was Pakistan U19 team’s heaviest ever defeat in any ICC ODI tournament. Shubman Gill was the star of the night for India, who scored an unbeaten 102 runs on just 94 balls and named player of the match.
In the second semi final of U19 World Cup at Christchurch, India won the toss and elected to bat first. The opener gave the boys in blue a good start with Pakistan dropping two easy catches and missing a couple of clear runouts. PP Shaw and Manjot Kaira scored 41 and 47 runs respectively but the real star was Shubman Gill, who scored his maiden century in the tournament and provided his bowlers an opportunity to defend a good total.
After a husky start, Pakistani bowlers made good comeback in the game and put the rivals under pressure. But, it was their poor fielding that helped India to recover. Pakistani fielders dropped at least three catches and missed seven runout chances. The top scorer for India, Gill was also dropped on 99 runs.

Muhammad Musa of Pakistan took four wickets and conceded 67 runs in his 10 overs while Arshad Iqbal took three wickets for 51 runs. Shaheen Shah Afridi, the most looked forward bowler for Pakistan was a little unlucky and took just one wicket. The captain of Pakistan, Hasan Khan gave 46 runs and remained wicket-less.
In reply, Pakistan lost four quick wickets to Ishan Porel. Openers Imran Shah and Muhammad Zaid Alam scored two and seven runs respectively while Pakistan’s top run scorer Ali Zaryab Asif added just one run in the chase. Pakistan were all out on 69, Rohail Nazir was top scorer for Pakistan, who scored 18 runs.
Pakistan will now face Afghanistan for third position in the tournament while India will play three time champions Australia in the final.
