Where social media is a quick platform for fans to engage with their favorite celebrities, there is very limited space for celebrities to make mistakes. They often find themselves in trouble for putting their words on several issues.

Sonya Hussyn is one of the leading Pakistani actors who often remain vocal on different societal, social, and issues related to the entertainment industry. But, being vocal sometimes put her on the edge of controversies.

Here’re a couple of times when Sonya landed herself in hot waters!

Calling Mahira ‘Sidekick’ of Shahrukh Khan

A clip from a three-year-old interview of Sonya to Yasir Hussain has been roaming on social media in which she dissed her fellow actor Mahira Khan. In the clip, Sonya said she would have refused to be SRK’s sidekick in Raees.

The actor was called out for her comments, and the online criticism was joined by Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid Chinnoy (SOC) who had reservations over the choice of words by Sonya.

“Don’t think you’ll ever be Mahira Khan so you won’t ever get to say no. Don’t diss other women in the industry; it reflects poorly on you and your upbringing,” she bashed.

Objection on Mere Paas Tum Ho

Sonya Hussyn, back then when Mere Paas Tum Ho was trending, claimed that Mehwish’s role was offered to her before Ayeza Khan but she rejected it because the story of the serial portrayed women in a bad light.

Later on, she acted in Muhabbat Tujhe Alvida that also portrayed women in a similar role to Mehwish in Mere Paas Tum Ho. People took that moment and compared the actor’s stance on ARY Digital’s hit drama and later on playing a similar character in another drama.

Accused of bullying Mathira

One of the most critical Pakistani celebrities Mathira accused Sonya of bullying her and calling her transgender during an award event in London.

“I had my headphones on minding my own business when I got to know from other celebrities that miss Sonya Hussyn thought I was [a] she-male. I was so belittled that she was commenting on me when I didn’t say a word to anyone,” Mathira accused.

Later on, the matter was clarified after Sonya called Mathira herself and posted a clarification note on Instagram.

Comments on ‘Autism’

Sonya played the role of a girl suffering from schizophrenia in her drama Saraab. While her drama was on cards, she talked about the disease on social media and tried to create awareness of it. But, a little went wrong for her after an Instagram user schooled her on the actual meaning of ‘Autism’ which she called a mental illness.

“I am a mother of two autistic children and Autism is not a mental illness, it is a disorder,” an Instagram user schooled Sonya. While reacting to this comment, Sonya clarified the buzz and said “It is one of the symptoms in schizophrenia.”
