International cricketer Ahmed Shahzad thinks that every player aims to be in the Pakistan team for the upcoming T20 World Cup through performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season five.

Shahzad told behtareen.pk that he is among the players who want to play this year’s T20 World Cup, scheduled in Australia. “Definitely, not only me but every other player wants to play the mega event in Australia later this year and I think PSL’s performance can be a way to accomplish that milestone,” Shahzad said.

PSL gives Pakistan an air of festivity

Like everyone in the country, Shahzad is equally excited for the PSL to be held completely in Pakistan from February 20 to March 22. The cricketer said that the event brings joy, excitement, and thrill to the cricket fans in the country.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate all the high-ups in the PCB for making it possible what the whole Pakistan was wishing for. PSL in Pakistan is like a dream comes true and credit goes to all the people who have worked really hard,” Shahzad maintained.

Overview of opponents

The right-handed opener Shahzad has a routine to check other teams too and try to figure out their combinations. He has already overviewed other squads in the event and is confident to put all efforts for his team Quetta Gladiators.

“I have looked at the roaster of all the teams. I always check other teams and try to figure out their positives and weaknesses, you can call it my habit and I used to do this from the very start,” he said. “All the teams are very strong, to be honest. I think every team comes to win so for me no one is weak. We as a team will try to play our own game and continue our winning streak,” he added.

Upon being asked, Shahzad said which team doesn’t want to retain the title. “I think everyone wants to win. Obviously, being defending champions, Gladiators is highly looking forward to retaining the title,” the cricketer highlighted.

Talking about his team’s preparation for the event, he said that everyone is focused and preparing strongly for the extravaganza. “Preparations are in full swing. We all are anxiously waiting for the event,” he said.

Personal aims

The veteran of 212 T20s has high hopes for the fifth edition of the PSL. His biggest competition is with himself and his every achievement sets new targets. “I believe hard work never goes in vain. I try to give my best every time I go out on the field. My aim for this event is simple, going out and supporting my team according to the situation,” he mentioned.

Shahzad’s daily routine includes learning all the constructive things. He believes that there are ups and downs in cricket but determination takes a cricketer on heights. “Remaining consistent is an art. Being a cricketer, you fail sometimes but giving away wouldn’t let you come stronger. You should work harder to go on top,” the only Pakistani cricketer to score a century in all three formats of the game, said.

Advice for youngsters

Here is an advice Shahzad has for the youngsters. He wants rising cricketers to not take anything for granted. “I personally don’t believe in taking things for granted. So, I would recommend all the youngsters to show confidence in their hard work and be positive,” he concluded.
