Pakistan’s social activist based in the United Kingdom, Malala Yousafzai, landed in hot waters just a day after getting onto British Vogue’s cover.

In her cover interview, where Malala talked about girls’ empowerment, she also underrated the importance of getting married.

“I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?” she shared her two cents.

“Even until my second year of university. I just thought, ‘I’m never going to get married, never going to have kids – just going to do my work. I’m going to be happy and live with my family forever,” she added.

This statement regarding marriage led to outrage on social media with people schooling her from a religious perspective.
