Great things are happening in the entertainment world, and Ms. Marvel’s upcoming release seems to top most of them. The series is not only exciting for existing Marvel fans, but also fans of local actors who are eager to see their faves play in a Hollywood production. And a huge part in making that happen is played by Academy Award winner and co-creator of the show, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.

While attending the glitzy premier of Ms. Marvel in LA, the filmmaker brought her desi charm to the red carpet, along with many other familiar faces from the local industry. This included Nimra Bucha, Mehwish Hayat, and Samina Ahmed, who are all a part of the cast.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Chinoy shared how historic of a day it is when so many Pakistani women are going to be gracing the event in Hollywood. “If you had told a girl from Karachi in 1990s that she would one day be in Hollywood, she would have never believed you. But twenty years ago in May 2002 someone opened a door for me in new York — then more doors were opened and mentors along the way encouraged me to tell the stories I wanted to tell,” she shared.

“I told stories that mattered to me and those that should matter to everyone,” she added.

She also named all the Pakistani ladies who were gracing the event – namely Sana Amanat, Misha Ali, Iman vellani, Nimra Bucha, Mehwish Hayat, Samina Ahmed and Vardah Aziz – and praised them for always following their dreams and continuing to tell stories that matter to them.

Mehwish Hayat was just as proud to see brown representation in the world of superhero movies. “Just being able to see a brown, Muslim superhero saving the world out there, I mean how cool is that? It’s a dream come true,” she shared on the red carpet.

As proud as Chinoy and Hayat are of Kamala Khan and Ms. Marvel, we’re sure the fans are just as keen on seeing what the show has to offer and represent in terms of brown identity. The show airs on Disney+ on June 8, while Pakistani audiences can watch it in cinemas on June 16 (episodes 1 and 2), June 30 (episodes 3 and 4) and July 14 (episodes 5 and 6).
