In a video message, Ata claimed that Akram bribed him during the 90s’ due to which he faced humiliation and life ban. “Akram has ruined my whole career. He influenced me to change my statement regarding him bribing me. I will continue making this issue public until Akram comes out to reveal how he threatened me to change my statement,” he said.

Ata was one of the main characters of Justice Qayyum Report which came out in 2000. Saleem Malik and Ata faced a lifetime ban on the recommendations of Justice Qayyum, the head of the commission which was formed on the directives of the then government to investigate the match-fixing scandal.

Ata further disclosed that he signed the affidavit in the presence of Amir Sohail and Rashid Latif who supported him initially. “I signed the affidavit, containing my statement regarding Akram offering me money to fix the match, in the presence of Latif and Sohail. They told me that they are with me and knew Akram is involved in fixing. Still, Akram played under their captaincy,” he maintained.
