Out of all the anticipated films of this year, Saqib Malik’s Baaji surely stands out as it marks the comeback of Meera. And with the release of its teaser, it definitely lives up to the hype it has been creating for months now.
Set against the backdrop of fading Lollywood, the teaser gives us a glimpse into the lives of two integral characters. Introduced as a superstar whose reign is about to be over, Meera shines with her star power, while Amna Ilyas is shown as a small-town girl with big dreams. The acting seems convincing enough, without unnecessary over dramatization.
There enters Osman Khalid Butt, a renowned director in search of a classic face to cast in his next film, and what happens next seems to be a montage of ongoing rivalries, jealousy, and the glitz and glamour of the showbiz world. The teaser ends on a dramatic note, with an outraged Meera uttering the words ‘love me or hate me, but you can never replace me’.

The cast also includes Mohsin Abbas Haider and Ali Kazmi, who may be playing love interests of the two leads, while veteran actors Nayyar Ejaz and Nisho have taken over supporting roles. All in all, the film promises to give us an inside look at the dark aspects of showbiz, and the teaser manages to deliver a drama-cum-thriller in the finest manner.
