If there’s one thing that’s been consistent since the limited release of Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer, it’s all the appreciation and accolades Yasir Hussain has been receiving for his performance as the titular character. To add to the list, we now have him winning the Best Actor Male Jury Mention at the Annual Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF).

Hussain took to his Instagram to announce the big achievement and mentioned how special of a role and project it has been for him. “Thank you for this best actor award. Javed Iqbal (the character) and Javed Iqbal (the film) are both very special for me as an actor,” he wrote in the caption.

In fact, this isn’t the first Best Actor award the actor has received internationally, and that too for the same film. Prior to this, the film had its world premiere at the UK Film Festival where Hussain bagged his first award in the Best Actor category while the director Ali Sajjad Shah also known as Aleeha bagged the Best Director award.

“This is my second international best actor award and I want to thank the whole team of Javed Iqbal, especially the director and writer of the film Abu Aleeha and my co-star Ayesha Omar,” Hussain continued in the caption.

READ: A more intense sequel for ‘Javed Iqbal’ is in the works

Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer has had to face tough luck with its release in Pakistan, where the censor board still has not given the green signal to release the film. And interestingly, the ban is not stopping the story from going forward. The film will also be getting a sequel titled Javed Iqbal 2, with a much more sinister look at the serial killer’s crimes.
