Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has announced its decision on the opinion and recommendations submitted by the joint meeting of the Council of Complaints Sindh and Lahore held on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding complaint against Amir Liaquat in Bol TV’s programme ‘Aisey Nahi Chalay Ga.’ The authority ordered the channel and Liaquat to apologize unconditionally to the viewers for airing the hate-speech.

In a press release released from Islamabad, PEMRA issued its decision regarding complaint against Amir Liaquat for his programme Aisey Nahi Chalay Ga on Bol TV. According to the decision, the channel and Amir Liaquat, shall separately, during the same time slot of the programme “Aisey Nahi Chalay Ga”, by specifically naming all the individual complainants against whom the hate speech was aired, apologize unconditionally to the viewers for airing the hate-speech.

The decision also requires the channel to ensure that text to the same effect is also scrolled/displayed on the screen during the entire programme wherein Dr. Amir Liaquat apologizes to the viewers.

It also asks The Licensee to submit an affidavit by March 31, 2017 by 1600 Hrs. with PEMRA, assuring the authority that no hate speech or any content in violation of Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015, notified by the Federal Government on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme COurt of Pakistan, shall be aired in future.

PEMRA also imposes Rs One million fine on the channel which is to be deposited within fifteen days of the issuance of the notice.
