Despite all odds, 2022 is turning out to be a fantastic year for local talent. While most creatives have reached milestones on a national level, many artists from Pakistan have been making history on a global scale. From Arooj Aftab to Saim Sadiq to Ahad Raza Mir, Pakistanis are shining bright with their talent, and we couldn’t be prouder. Keep reading to see some of the major milestones we’ve witnessed this year. 

For starters, Ahad Raza Mir made his Hollywood debut by being a part of Netflix’s live-action remake of the horror-thriller series, Resident Evil. The actor recently shared his official first look from the upcoming series.

And while we’re on the topic of actors making it big in Hollywood, British-Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed won his first Oscar for the live-action short film The Long Goodbye, which he co-wrote and starred in.

Soon after, singer Arooj Aftab scored big when she became the first Pakistani ever to win a Grammy. She won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance for her song Mohabbat.

But the streak of winning accolades of awards doesn’t end there. Saim Sadiq’s film Joyland made it to this year’s Cannes Festival and did not only get a long standing ovation at the premier, but also bagged the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard category.

In other big wins, we have Laraib Atta and her phenomenal VFX skills which she again provided for the latest Doctor Strange film, which is a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And last, but definitely not the least for now, the reigning queen of the makeup industry Nabila Maqsood became one of the official backstage partners at this year’s IIFA Awards.
