Updated: According to the latest updates, Amjad Sabri will be seen performing in Coke Studio 9 with another maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The two legends have recorded Aaj Rang Hai Imaan, which has been directed by Jaffer Ali Zaidi.
“About 40 years ago, my father and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan read this Kalaam at a dargah in Karachi and 40 years later, Rahat and I are reading it again,” told Sabri while he was recording Coke Studio a month before his death.
Atif Aslam’s version of Tajdar-e-Haram in Coke Studio season 8 went viral last year but, for the fans of Sabri Qawwals and their torchbearer Amjad Sabri, it was still not comparable with original one. Amjad Sabri was kind enough to support Atif Aslam and said that he had allowed permission only to pay tribute to his late father Ghulam Farid Sabri.
This year, the great Amjad Sabri himself hit the floor to mark his debut in Coke Studio 9 but who knew that the legendary Qawwal won’t make to see it on television. The show is set to run in next couple of months but alas, the torchbearer won’t be with us.
Yesterday, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan strongly condemned the killing of his friend and told ‘another son of the soil has been killed, my heart is crying.”
