Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared that Netflix loved his idea of making a web series on Lahore’s Heeramandi.

In an interview with the Indian publication, Bhansali said Netflix believes that Heeramandi will be a blockbuster as it highlights hidden culture of the red light area in Lahore.

“Lahore’s Heeramandi’s story was introduced to me by my close friend Moin Bad 14 years ago. Finally, when we presented it to Netflix, they loved it and they thought it had great potential to make a mega-series. It is very ambitious, it’s very big and vast. It tells you the story of courtesans,” he said.

“They kept music, poetry, and dance and the art of living. It shows the politics within the brothels and how to emerge as the winner. It is a difficult one but I hope we come across with flying colors this time,” he added.

According to Indian reports, the web series is set to feature some big names from Bollywood such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, and Madhuri Dixit-Nene.

Many Pakistani actors and producers raised concerns over the backwardness of Pakistan that Heeramandi’s story was picked up by India.
