The newly elected Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman Ramiz Raja has announced Australia’s Matthew Hayden as consultant batting coach and South Africa’s Vernon Philander as consultant bowling coach of Pakistan team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.
In his first press conference as PCB chairman, Raja named the two foreigners as he thinks they can put aggression and energy in Pakistan’s squad for the mega event.
“Hayde and Philander are good cricketing names, having enough knowledge of their respective jobs,” he said.
“Hayden, I think will inherit aggression in the announced T20 World Cup squad. Philander had a good record as a bowler and I believe he can be worthy for our team,” he added.
According to Ramiz, both the coaches will be paid by the Bank Alfalah as PCB signed strategic partnership with them.
International Career
Hayden played in all three formats for Australia from 1994 to 2007. The left-handed batter had represented the Aussies in 103 Tests, 161 ODIs and nine T20Is. His T20I average is 51.33 as he had scored 308 runs in nine matches.
On the other hand, Philander had represented South Africa in 64 Tests, 30 ODIs and seven T20Is from 2007-2011. He only has four wickets in all his seven T20Is he played in 2007.
Coaching Experience
Two of them don’t have any major coaching experience. Philander retired from international cricket in 2020, but continued playing domestic cricket. Hayden had left cricket in 2009 and after that he went in some media work and never tried coaching.
T20 World Cup will be their major coaching assignment.
