A resolution seeking a ban on celebrities hosting Ramazan transmissions was unanimously accepted yesterday. The resolution was submitted in the Punjab Assembly last week, and now requests the federal government to make sure that TV channels comply with the esteem of Ramadan.

Celebrities including Fahad Mustafa, Ahsan Khan, Ayesha Omar, Sanam Baloch, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and many others have actively contributed to hosting Ramadan transmissions in the past.

Submitted on behalf of Maulana Muhammad Muavia Azam (Pakistan Rah-e-Haq party’s parliamentary leader), the resolution deems transmissions hosted by showbiz-related personalities an ‘unfortunate practice’. It further states:

“Having people associated with showbiz host Ramazan transmissions is an unfortunate practice. Ramazan transmissions are hosted by people who have no affiliation with the ranks of the Islamic faith. This practice afflicts the spirits of millions of Muslims every year.”

Subsequently, PEMRA is asked to enforce the ban, as per the resolution. However, the authority is yet to comment on the matter.
