Cricketing legend Waseem Akram’s biopic is in the works. Titled ‘Akram- An Era,’ the film will chronicle his life’s journey, is all set to be adapted for his fans and audiences’ across the globe. Directed by Adeel Niazi and produced by Arsalan H. Shah, the biopic is a highly unusual enterprise.

The 32-second teaser is basically the announcement of the film. It sets the mood right away and features the showman himself, showcasing the best of his skills with stunning shots of the cricket stadium and background score. It ends with an interesting note on how the auditions for ‘Akram An Era’ will open after Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Akram took to Instagram and wrote:

So they decided to tell my tale! I am excited. Are you?

Biopics seem to be the latest fad in the film industry. Usually, in Pakistan, we don’t get to see much of a sports biopic mounted with quite this level of patronage from the subject himself. Pakistan seems to be breathing sports throughout, and so there’s no doubt owing to Akram’s popularity across the nation, it will reach out to a more significant section of masses and undoubtedly have a great response.

The pitch conqueror is admired by millions and widely acknowledged as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. He represented the Pakistan cricket team in Test cricket and One Day International (ODI) matches as a left-arm fast bowler who could bowl at a significant pace. He was the first bowler to reach the 500-wicket mark in ODI cricket. He is considered to be one of the founders and perhaps the finest exponent of reverse swing bowling. Wasim Akram needs no introduction, but his journey does. His story just past the pavilion is his best-kept secret, and we can’t wait to witness the magic on the big screen.
