It was a bright day for Quetta Gladiators in terms of their win against Islamabad United, and Sohail Tanvir had a lot to contribute to it. The first innings shone bright for the Gladiators as he picked up four wickets, including Luke Ronchi’s who had to go back after being caught on first ball. Moreover, he also sent Shadab Khan back to the pavilion with a brilliant catch.

In a press conference following the match, Tanvir was asked if he was heartbroken for being ignored in the national side despite giving good performances in domestic and league cricket. “If I were heartbroken, I wouldn’t have been playing cricket right now but obviously, till whenever I playing, my top most priority is to play for Pakistan,” he said. “Obviously, one-day cricket may be bit far for me, but I am eyeing the T20 World Cup next year,” he added.

He also went on to talk about the frustration he feels when a worthy player does not get the chance they deserve. “I definitely feel frustrated. If you don’t perform well and are taken out of the team then you see it coming, but when you do well and still don’t get to play for your country, then it hurts,” he said. “The only way you can take this frustration out is to show it through your bat on the field. I am a strong believer of that, instead of saying words,” he added.

Talking about Shadab’s catch, Tanvir showed a little disappointed because he was still not given the best catch of the match award. “I wasn’t given the best catch of the match award, which is very surprising for me, to be honest,” he laughed. “There is a perimeter set in Pakistan’s team which requires the fielding to be amazing as well. So, I have been working on that, along with my fitness. However, it does not depend on me but the selectors and the management. I am trying to improve whatever’s in my control,” he added.

On a parting note, he was appreciative of Sarfraz Ahmad’s capabilities as captain. “I have played with him before and he is also my junior, so we have a better understanding. And the best thing is that he doesn’t hold a dictatorship over me in terms of field setting and bowling. He knows that I have experience. So, it is a great pairing so far,” he told.
