Yumna Zaidi stressed the need of highlighting social issues like child abuse, women harassment, and trafficking in dramas to aware people.

Reacting to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA)’s notice to her ongoing drama serial ‘Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi‘ over content, Yumna questioned that what is wrong in highlighting societal issues which are common.

“PEMRA’s notice to this drama is out of my mind. I mean I can’t understand that if we do not highlight our own social and societal issues then who will? Such things are happening around us, in schools, villages, and streets. There is a definite need to highlight them and spread awareness,” Yumna told BBC Urdu.

“We can’t only make serials on saas-bahu and love stories. If these stories are getting space in our dramas then why not the social and societal issues?” she asked.

Yumna shared that notice to Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi on Tv One has a special sympathy from her side as this project was close to her heart. “I am very disappointed that this drama gets notice over the content. I really enjoyed watching every single episode which raised several questions in our society,” she said.

“PEMRA should revisit their decision to issue a notice to this drama as we received massive response against them. People liked this drama and the whole story behind it,” she stressed.

Written by Amna Mufti and directed by Kashif Nisar, Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahi touched subjects like human trafficking, child abuse, child marriages, women trafficking, teenage women used for prostitution or domestic slavery.
