Nadia Jamil recently made an appearance on Samina Peerzada’s show Rewind With Samina, the episode of which is yet to be aired. However, Jamil went on to dissociate herself with the show on the basis of them endorsing a fairness cream brand, Fair & Lovely.

In a Facebook status posted yesterday, Jamil declared how despite having profound respect for the host, she wants to distance herself from the show on the basis of them supporting the brand which promotes unrealistic standards of beauty. The veteran actress also stated that she was unaware of the sponsorship when the interview was shot.

“Although I have a deep respect for Samina Peerzada and love her a lot, I want to publicly distance myself from the heinously racist and demoralizing brand Fair and Lovely. I had no idea they sponsor the interview I have recorded. Till right now,” she wrote.

She further added how dark skin should be celebrated, and women shouldn’t be shamed into investing in fairness products as such.

“Stop telling us and making money off brainwashing the planet as to what our standard for beauty needs to be. We are all beautiful. Racism should not be endorsed. Body shaming should not be endorsed,” she said.

The post was met with positive reactions from everybody. And it doesn’t take away from the fact that Peerzada is now repeatedly being called out for her problematic statements on the show.

However, in a recent update, Jamil is still boosting the episode on her social media despite distancing herself from the show earlier. Kind of makes you wonder where her loyalties lie.
